Punjab off to winning start in Far-west Khaptad Gold Cup

Dhangadhi, January 5

Punjab Football Club of India defeated Nepalgunj-XI 3-2 in the opening match of the Far-west Khaptad Gold Cup at the Dhangadhi Stadium today.

Lucky scored a brace for Punjab, while Rimi netted one. Bikram Singh Thakuri scored one for Nepalgunj, who were gifted with an own goal from a Punjab player. Punjab goalkeeper Gurjit Singh was named the man-of-the-match.

Earlier, Member of Parliament Pushkar Nath Ojha inaugurated the tournament. A total of 12 teams from Nepal, India and Bhutan are taking part in the tournament organised by Far-west Sports Club.On Friday, West Kathmandu FC will play against Druk Star FC of Bhutan. Laxmi Hyundai Manang Marshyangdi Club, CMG Club Sankata, Tribhuvan Army Club, Boys Union Club, Sahara Club, Jagdamba Lumbini-XI and Delhi FC of India are the other teams participating in the tournament.
