PYC, White House advance
Kathmandu, January 1:
Public Youth Campus, Himalayan White House College, South Siders and RIBS entered the men’s section semi-finals at the sixth men’s and fifth women’s Samsung National Basketball Tournament.
In the day’s first quarter-final, Public Youth defeated Kaski 51-44. PYC dominated the first three quarters. PYC took a 15-13 lead in the first quarter and extended the lead to six in the next quarter.
PYC led the third quarter 11-6, while Kaski came strongly in the last with 15 points restricting PYC to 11, but all the damages were already done. PYC’s Bijay Gurung scored 16 points, while Prem Gurung contributed 14 for Kaski.
White House thrashed Rupandehi 86-36. Dominating from the beginning, national team captain Bipendra Maharjan led White House took 18-7 lead in the first quarter. They added another 11 points to their lead in the second quarter and then extended it to 32 at the end of the third quarter.
Bipendra and Sushil Gurung scored 20 each for White House, while Khem Thapa of Rupandehi scored 12 points.
South Siders defeated Don Bosco 36-31 riding on Sanjaya Byanjankar’s 14 points. Bantu Bataju scored 10 points for Don Bosco. In the last match, RIBS outplayed Ambition 70-31, in which Rinjin Thapa Magar of RIBS top-scored with 22 points and Bijay Khatri netted 12 points for Ambition.
