Rai wins Mukherjee Farewell Cup Golf
Kathmandu, February 2:
PB Rai won the Mukherjee Farewell Golf Tournament here at the Le Meridien Gokarna Forest Resort Golf Course today.
Playing with eight handicap, Rai and the runner up TG Shrestha (handicap 10) scored 35 points each but Rai won the championship on count back.
Rai scored 17 in the front nine and 18 in the back nine while Shrestha had 18 in the front nine and 17 in the back nine. Joseph Zimmerman finished third with 31 points.
Maj NK Rai claimed
the senior section title with 31 points while Pushpa Rai bagged the ladies championship. Playing with 23 handicap, Pushpa scored 30 points. Likewise, Wangchen Dhondup won the closest-to-the-pin award and Karma Lama claimed the longest drive honour.
In all, 40 golfers including two ladies took part in the event organised by Gokarna Golf Club to bid farewell to Indian Ambassador Shiv Shanker Mukherjee. Ambassador Mukherjee will be leaving Nepal later this month after the completion of his diplomatic term.
The tournament was played over 18 holes on a stableford format with 3/4 handicap allowance. Nobody turned fortunate to win a Kia car — a prize set for a hole in one. Chaudhary Group also sponsored prizes for the tournament.
Ambassador Mukherjee and Executive Director of Chaudhary Group Nirman Chaudhary gave away the prizes.
