Rain plays spoilsport
Bhairahawa, June 10:
The Shikhar Two-day National Cricket League match between Region No 4 (Bhairahawa) and Region No 5 (Nepalgunj) ended in a draw after the second day play was washed out due to rain.
Other two matches — Region No 2 (Birgunj) vs Region No 3 (Kathmandu) in Birgunj and Region No 1 (Biratnagar) vs Region No 6 (Baitadi) in Kalaiya — ended in draws without a single ball being bowled due to rain. All the teams earned 10 points each.
Both Bhairahawa and Nepalgunj suffered due to the flaw in the rain rule that restricted them to the points they earned from the first day’s play. Bhairahawa had 9.5 points — 5.5 in batting and four in bowling, and Nepalgunj had five — four in bowling and one in batting. The teams would have shared 10 points each had the match been completely washed out.
Bhairahawa had taken a lead of 222 runs on the first day after declaring their innings at 275-8 and were in sight of victory after reducing Nepalgunj to 53-8.
The remaining eight matches will now be held in Kathmandu from September 18. Cricket Association of Nepal, rescheduled the tournament citing technical reasons last Thursday.
Baitadi lead the table with 50.5 points from three matches, while Birgunj are second with 37.5 from two and Biratnagar have 34.5 points from three matches. Bahirahawa (21.5), Kathmandu (18.5) and Nepalgunj (15) have played two matches each.
