KATHMANDU: Former President of Nepal Sports Journalists Forum Niranjan Rajbanshi was elected as the treasurer of the Asian Sports Press Association (AIPS-Asia) in Islamabad on Friday.

Rajbanshi garnered 18 votes against seven received by his Syrian rival Abeer Ali in the 20th extraordinary congress of AIPS-Asia. NSJF General Secretary Prakash Timalsina also attended the congress.

Rajbanshi was elected treasurer from the congress held in Bahrain last year and the extra ordinary congress was called after AIPS Asia President Mohammed Qassim stepped down following the resignation by the majority of the executive committee.

Sattam Ali Alsahli of Kuwait was unanimously elected as the President, while Amjad Aziz Malik of Pakistan was elected as General Secretary.

The congress also elected one first vice-president, five vice-presidents and eight members for the next three years.
