Ramita enters last four

Ramita Prajapati of Ward No 16 of Bhaktapur entered the semi-finals defeating Mira Regmi of Ward No 29 of Kathmandu 11-5, 11-2 and 11-0 at the Valley wide inter-city ward Table Tennis Championship that got under way here on Saturday at the Table Tennis Training Centre, Lalichaur.

Similarly, Ward No 16 of Bhaktapur Municipality took berth in the quarter-finals defeating Ward No 17 of Kathmandu Metropolitan City 3-1. Other matches of the championship will be held on Sunday and Monday.

In all, 154 players from 16 Wards of Kathmandu Metropolis, Lalitpur Sub-metropolitan City, Bhaktapur Municipality and Madhyapur Thimi Municipality are participating for six titles in the three-day championship being organised by Democratic National Youth Federation (DNYF), Nepal. Both boys’ and girls’ singles, doubles and team events will be awarded with medals and certificates.

Earlier, convenor of DNYF fifth conference preparation committee and Member of Parliament Gokarna Bista and senior coach of Nepal Karate Federation and DNYF Sports Division chief Purendra Bikram Lakhe jointly inaugurated the tournament.

Senior chief coach of Table Tennis Ramesh Raj Joshi, DNYF fifth conference preparation committee members Bhim KC, Ajambar Rai Kangmang, Rabindra Adhikari, Bhesh raj Adhikari, Mahendra Bilas Joshi, Rameshwor Bhattarai, Hajam Baral and valley in-charge Shyam Bhandari were also present in the inauguration ceremony chaired by convenor of organising committee Deepak Basnet. Former member-secretary of the National Sports Council Jeevan Ram Shrestha also attended the ceremony.
