Rana unbeaten

LALITPUR: Mahika Rana remained unbeaten by the end of second round of the Road to Singapore, junior tennis selection tournament here on Saturday. In the girls’ U-16 category, Rana defeated Bijisha Shrestha 8-2 and thrashed Slesha Pradhan 8-0. Likewise, Shrestha defeated Mayanka Rana 9-8, while Rana outplayed Pradhan 8-0. In the U-14 category, Ira Raut and Abhilasha Bista remained unbeaten. Raut beat Meghavi Giri 8-2 and Khusi Pandey 8-3, while Bista registered a 8-2 win over Prerana Koirala and beat Giri 8-3. Also, Koirala edged past Saloni Tamang 9-7, while Pandey also beat Tamang 8-4. The winners of both the groups will qualify for Road to Singapore.

Shahi wins race

TANAHUN: Sagun Raj Shahi won the title of the 11th Sachin Memorial Open Road Race in Damauli here on Saturday. Shahi completed the seven-kilometre distance in 37 minutes ahead of Yubaraj Thapa and Pawan Hadak. The top three finishers received Rs 5,000, Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,000 respectively. Bipin Gauli finished the race in fourth position and received Rs 1,000. A total of 37 runners competed in the race organised by Rotaract Club of Damauli in memory of Sachin Kumar Shrestha, who lost his life while attending the club’s meeting in India.

Rapid Chess tourney

LALITPUR: FIDE Master Rupesh Jaiswal and Candidate Master Madan Krishan Kayastha lifted the titles of the Rapid Chess Tournament organised by Lalitpur District Chess Association in memory of sports journalist Suman Bhomjan, who lost his life in April 25 devastating earthquake, here on Saturday. Top-seeded Jaiswal, who had won silver medal in ASEAN Chess Tournament last week, claimed the rapid section title winning all seven matches. In Blitz section, Kayestha won the title with 4.5 points from five rounds with four wins and a draw.
