Biratnagar Kings' three-match winning streak came to an end today with a 48-run defeat to Chitwan Rhinos in the Nepal Premier League (NPL) 2025.
In the day–night fixture at the TU International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, Biratnagar were bowled out for 126 in 16.5 overs while chasing a target of 175. Merchant de Lange top-scored with 39, while Pratish GC contributed 30 runs.
Debutant Ranjit Kumar's five-wicket haul tormented Biratnagar's batting lineup, securing two crucial points for Chitwan and earning him the Player of the Match award.
"Of course we are happy with the win, but we could have done even better," Ranjit said during the post-match presentation.
Earlier, after being put in to bat, Chitwan posted 174 for 5 in the allotted 20 overs. Ravi Bopara anchored the innings with a half-century (65), supported by Saif Zaib with 32 and Dev Khanal with 28. Captain Kushal Malla remained unbeaten on 20.
Biratnagar skipper Sandeep Lamichhane and Merchant de Lange took two wickets each, while Shubham Ranjane claimed one.
In tomorrow's double-header, Lumbini Lions face Sudurpaschim Royals in the first match, while Janakpur Bolts and Pokhara Avengers meet under the lights at the same venue-both teams searching for their first win after suffering back-to-back defeats.
