RIBS pip Wilson, LRI advance to last four

Lalitpur, July 29:

Robin Khatri top-scored with 21 points as RIBS defeated Wilson Academy 52-51 and finished first in boys’ section Pool B at the Campion Inter-school Basketball Tournament, which has been organised by Campion Associates to mark its 10th anniversary. RIBS will play Brihaspati Vidya Sadan, who finished runners-up from Pool A, in the semi-final. In the other semis, Pool A leaders Sambotta School take on Pool B runners-up Wilson Academy. In girls’ section, Brihaspati Vidya Sadan, playing their last match, lost 17-86 to Pool A toppers Gyanodaya Bal Batika School. Sabina Pokharel netted 34 points for the winners. GBBS will now play Pool B runners-up Campion School. LRI School, who finished runners-up from Pool A, also advanced to the semi-finals after earning walkover from Kathmandu Valley School. In the semis, they will meet Pool B toppers Rato Bangala School.

In other boys’ section matches on Firday, LRI School defeated Campion School 28-15; and Rato Bangala School beat Sagarmatha School 38-32. The match between RIBS and Wilson was a close one. Wilson took a three-point lead in the first quarter, and in the next quarter both the teams scored 11 points each. Wilson led the third quarter with two points, thanks to Robin Khatri, who contributed five points. But the last quarter saw RIBS scoring 23 to Wilson’s 17. The competition started ever since the score was 15-14 in favour of RIBS. At one stage in the third quarter, both the teams were tied at 29 points each. Both the teams kept the scorers

busy in the last quarter, scoring simultaneously. With less than a minute remaining, they were tied at 45 points each. In the end RIBS proved strong, thanks to Mausam Gauchan who netted the match winning two-pointer. Ranjeet Giri had 18 points for Wilson.
