Ride to pay tribute to Sharma

Kathmandu, September 21

Rupak Memorial Foundation is organising bicycle ride on Saturday to mark the 25th anniversary of PIA plane crash in Lele, Lalitpur.

A total of 167 passengers, including former national football team skipper and FIFA Referee Rupak Raj Sharma, were on board the PIA’s Airbus A300B4-203 that crashed at Lele on September 28, 1992. “We have informed the friends and relatives of the deceased to participate in the ride,” said RMF General Secretary Krishna Sharma at a press meet today.

The ride will start at the RMF building in Satdobato and go to PIA Memorial Park in Lele. “We will have a candle lighting ceremony to pay tribute to the deceased passengers and Team Sarangi will perform a short performance before the participants return to RMF building,” Sharma added.

“As all the friends and families will not be able to go to Lele, we will have a candle lighting ceremony at the RMF building upon the arrival of participants. As our main objective is to pay tribute to the deceased passengers and raise awareness on air safety, we have planned an interaction programme on Airspace Scenario in Nepal,” said Shailendra Dangol from event management partner Pangro.

The event is also supported by Buddha Air, Real Fruit Power, Star Hospital, Project Sarangi and Key Advertising.
