Rokaya wins Yak Attack title

Pokhara, March 11:

The three-time Everest Marathon champion Hari Bahadur Rokaya won the Yak Attack-2007, a high altitude cycling and running competition on Saturday.

A Guinness world record holder for the fastest high altitude marathoner, Rokaya finished the 200km course in 24 hours, five minutes and 45 seconds. Organised by England-based Extreme World Challenge, the £500 (Rs 68,000) event began from Bahundanda of Lamjung on March 3 and ended in Beni of Myagdi on March 9.

Suresh Kumar Dulal (27:00:08) and Pasang Sherpa (28:53:11) finished second and third respectively.

In all, 17 athletes — 12 Nepali and 5 English — took part in the event.

Anu Lama of Annapurna Conservation Area Project and Phil Evan of Extreme World gave away the prizes to the winners of the event.
