KATHMANDU, AUGUST 25
The Rotary Club of Himalayan Golfers (RCHG) has raised around US$3,500 through the Nepal legs of the Virtual Rotary World Golf Fellowship 2026, generating a total impact of US$10,500 through the Rotary International-Gates Foundation matching arrangement.
Held under the theme "Swing for a Cause – End Polio", the fundraising campaign featured two golf events-the opening leg at Gokarna Forest Resort on August 15, with 20 participants, and the second at Royal Nepal Golf Club on August 21, with 34 players.
Rotary International's partnership with the Gates Foundation matches every dollar raised through the campaign two-to-one. The combined funds will support global polio immunisation and eradication efforts.
At the Royal Nepal Golf Club event, heavy afternoon rainfall forced organisers to limit official scoring to nine holes. Kishor Basnet won the men's category on countback after tying with Bishwaman Gurung at 20 points, while Pratik Tamang won the gross category with 16 points.
Astha Dulal won the women's category with 19 points, followed by RCHG President Aarti R.L. Rana with 13 points. Bijay Moktan won the senior category with 18 points, while Mahesh Karki finished runner-up with 17 points.
Rana said the participation of Rotarians, non-Rotarian golfers and supporters demonstrated the community's ability to generate a wider social impact through a shared purpose.
The club also announced "She Swings", an invitational women's tournament scheduled for March 8, 2027, at Gokarna Forest Resort. The event is expected to attract around 70 female golfers.
Under its "Golf for Her" initiative, the club is seeking corporate and individual support to identify 10 underprivileged girls below 18 for a year of structured professional golf training in Nepal.
The fellowship series will continue with the Dharan Open on October 3, 2026.
