Rupandehi-XI defeated Rumpum Jhapa-XI in sudden death to advance to the semi-finals of the fourth Rumpum Udaypur Gold Cup Football Tournament here at the Tharuhat Stadium today.

The winners of the match were decided in second attempt of sudden death after both the teams played 1-1 draw in the regulation period of 90 minutes and remained tied at 4-4 in penalty shoot out. Bikram Limbu scored the match winning goal for Rupandehi in sudden death after Jhapa’s Bishal Rai failed to convert his shot. Earlier, Rupandehi’s Kalu Thapa and Jhapa’s Bishal Gurung converted their shots.

In penalty shoot out, Saurav Magar, Uttam Gurung, Bijay Dhimal and Dilip Chhetri scored for Rupandehi, while Deepak Rai missed his shot. Similarly, Dilen Moktan, Raj Kumar Limbu, Khamin Gilson and Rajin Subba converted from the spot for Jhapa, while Sanjog Rai failed to score. In the regulation period, Rejin Subba put Jhapa ahead in the 67th minute before Rupandehi’s Bikki Chaudhary levelled the scores five minutes later. Rupandehi’s Rejin Subba won the man-of-the-match award and Rs 5,000.
