Safina advances to semi-finals
Paris, June 4:
Dinara Safina mounted her most improbable comeback in at least 48 hours on Wednesday to reach the French Open semi-finals.
Safina came within a point of defeat for the second consecutive match, then rallied past fellow Russian Elena Dementieva 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-0. The semi-final berth is the first in a major tournament for the younger sister of two-time Grand Slam champion Marat Safin. Her opponent will be another Russian, Svetlana Kuznetsova, who beat Kaia Kanepi 7-5, 6-2. The other semi-final will be all-Serbian, with No 2-seeded Ana Ivanovic playing No 3 Jelena Jankovic.
