Salani, Lisanovic in second round
KATHMANDU: Salani Lama and Ashlesha Lisanovic entered into the second round of the second APF Open Lawn Tennis Tournament today.
In the ladies singles matches at the APF headquarters, Lama cruised to a comfortable 6-0, 6-0 victory over Diana Shrestha while Lisanovic outplayed Anushka Lama 6-1, 6-0.
In other matches, Ritu Gurung saw off Shrija Karki 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, Malika Rana ousted Pavitra Gurung 6-1, 6-3, Sagun Thapa struggled past Evelin Shakya 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 and Ramita Kapali beat Alisha Shrestha 6-3, 1-6, 6-0. Kalpana Thapa earned a walkover win to reach second round.
In men’s singles matches, Kumar Adhikari overcame Suman GC 6-1, 6-0 and Niraj Thapa registered a 6-1, 6-1 win over Pranaya Karki while reaching the second round. Likewise, Chewang Lama edged past Ashok Dangol 6-2, 6-2, Hari Hayu crushed Diwakar Ojha 6-2, 6-3, Maheshwor Tiwari sidelined Ashok Singh 6-3, 6-0.
In other matches, Gagan Maharjan battled hard for 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 win over Krishna Kashula, Ramesh Karki eased past Rohit Sunwar 6-0, 6-1, Santosh Khatri thrashed Mahesh Shahi 6-2, 6-3 and Shriyansha Karki beat Brahmanda Singh Moktan 6-1, 6-0. Raju Shrestha, Amul Regmi, Dipendra Pariyar and Sama Shrestha were others entering the second round of the tournament. Gaurav Shah and Lok Bahadur Gurung earned walkover wins while Atma Ram Karki also qualified for the next stage after his opponent pulled out of injury.
Devendra Raj Kandel also earned a walkover win in the veterans singles (above 55yrs) today. On Sunday night Anuj Arora of The Himalayan Times defeated Suraj Shrestha of APF 6-2, 6-3 in the veterans singles (above 35) match to enter the second round.
