Sankata announce taekwondo tourney

Kathmandu, January 25

Sankata Club is organising the National Invitational Sankata Running Shield Taekwondo Tournament here in Tebahal on January 28-29.

A total of 108 players from three departmental teams, five regions and hosts will compete in the tournament, informed Sankata Club General Secretary Ramesh Dhoj Basnet at a press meet today.

The tournament features 12 weight categories — 54kg, 58kg, 63kg, 68kg, 73kg and 77kg in men’s category and 42kg, 46kg, 49kg, 53kg, 57kg and 62kg in women’s section. “We have invited top players who recently played in the seventh National Games held in Eastern Region and 12 players of hosts will take part in all weight categories. We will also increase the number of players in coming days,” said Basnet. “The tournament will encourage children towards sports as they mainly remain addicted to social networking sites and technologies these days,” he added.

Basnet informed that top three teams will get Rs 30,000, Rs 25,000 and Rs 15,000 respectively and

the tournament will cost around Rs 1.6 million.

The title sponsor of the tournament Leon Motors Pvt Ltd, the authorised distributor of Mitsubishi motors in Nepal, will provide the organisers with Rs 500,000, informed Leon Motors’ Chief Operations Officer Upendra Napit.
