Gurung, Maden win gold medals

Kathmandu, April 5

Tribhuvan Army Club’s Sarita Gurung and Eastern Region’s Sina Maden won gold medals in the poomsae category of the first Women’s International Taekwondo Tournament here at the National Sports Council covered hall today.

Gurung won the gold medal in U-15 age group, while Eastern’s Swostika Tamang bagged silver. Maden claimed her gold medal in U-19 category and TAC’s Roshani Thapa won silver.

Similarly, TAC’s Kajal Shrestha and

India’s Kritika Thakur advanced to the final of the women’s 46kg weight category final.

Unisha Rai of TAC, Ashmita Khadka of Nepal APF Club, Western’s Rakhi Sharma and India’s Sarada Dikshit earned last four spots in the 49kg, while Shivani Thakur of India, Sunita Tamang of Eastern, TAC’s Kalpana Chaudhary, Far-west’s Parbati Bhandari advanced to the semi-finals in the 53kg.

APF’s Bimala Tamang, Eastern’s Sina Maden, India’s Afrin Mider and TAC’s Reshma Thapa secured last four berths in the 57kg, while Muskan Karki of TAC, Mid-west’s Mina Pun, Western’s Alisha KC, Sandhya Singh of Eastern entered 62kg semis. TAC’s Namrata Tuladhar, Far-west’s Akriti Karki, Mid-west’s Kamal Nepali and Western’s Mamta Garbaja advanced to 67kg category last four.

In the junior’s category, Abina Rai of Eastern, Sarishma Sah of Far-west, Ashmita Maharjan of APF and TAC’s Sadiksha Karki made it to the 40kg category last four, while APF’s Dakshina Thakuri, Western’s Puja Turaha, TAC’s Sima Shrestha and Central’s Namuna Shrestha booked their places in the semi-finals of the 42kg event. Similarly, TAC’s Yogmaya Shrestha, Central’s Bina Gurung, Eastern’s Sushila Budhathoki and Western’s Chanda Ghartimagar advanced to the last four in the 44kg weight category.

Earlier, Minister for Peace and Construction Sita Devi Yadav inaugurated the tournament organised by Women Empowerment Committee under Nepal Taekwondo Association.
