Sarita, Linda enter Hyatt-Pilot Pen Open Tennis semi-finals

Kathmandu, January 27:

Sarita Adhikari and Linda McDugal entered the women’s singles semi-finals at the Hyatt-Pilot Pen Open Tennis Tournament, which has been organised by Hyatt Regency Kathmandu in association with Pilot Pen, here today.

Adhikari defeated Yanchen Lama and McDugal outplayed Aarti Rana on the second day of the three-day event.

Adhikari and McDugal joined Kalpana Thapa and Priti Rijal, who qualified on Friday, in the last four.

In veteran’s singles, Krishna Ghale, Soviet Basnet, Manoj Rana and Shubha Shami made it to the last four. Ghale beat C Dhondup 6-1, 6-0; Soviet Shrestha defeated Raju Shrestha 6-3, 7-6; Rana outplayed Deonam Lama 6-1, 6-1; and Shahi overwhelmed Dinesh Tuladhar 6-0, 6-1.

Also, Sriram Magar, Jitendra Pariyar, Santosh Khatri and Kumar Adhikari entered the men’s singles semi-finals. Magar beat Janmejaya Rana 6-2, 6-1; Pariyar defeated Hari Magdugal 6-0, 6-2; Khatri outplayed Siddhartha Moktan 6-1, 6-1; and Adhikari eliminated Anthony Watt to reach the last four.

The tournament features two categories — Corporate and Open. In corporate section, there will be competitions in men’s singles, mixed doubles/men’s doubles and veteran’s singles, while open section have men’s singles and women’s singles events.
