Sato sets record

TOKYO: Former Japan striker Hisato Sato set a new J-League scoring record on Sunday when he netted the 158th goal of his career in Sanfrecce Hiroshima’s 1-1 draw at Nagoya Grampus. The record came a day after Kawasaki Frontale forward Yoshito Okubo tied Sato and former Japan international Masashi Nakayama on 157 goals. Sato’s effort was a scruffy one, credited to him after a shot from Kosei Shibasaki deflected off the 33-year-old and into the net. “It wasn’t very pretty but I guess it’s typical of the type of goals I score,” said Sato, who has helped champions Hiroshima win three J-League titles in the past four years.
