Shahi wins tennis title

POKHARA: Anil Shahi defeated Niraj Thapa 6-3, 6-0 in the final of the second Homes Tennis Tournament, organised by Lake City Tennis Club, here on Sunday. Shahi received Rs 12,000, while Thapa got Rs 6,000.

Lok Bahadur Gurung bagged the novice section title with a 7-6, 6-4 victory over Deepak Pariyar. Gurung and Pariyar received Rs 7,000 and Rs 4,000 respectively. French player Caroli Poche lifted the women’s trophy beating Ritu Gurung 7-6, 6-4 and earned Rs 4,000. Ritu received Rs 2,000.

A total of 19 players in men’s, nine in women’s and 34 in novice sections took part in the tournament sponsored by Pokhara Homes. On the closing ceremony, five persons — Sri Ram Thapa Magar, Niraj Thapa, Shambhu Gurung, Ranjit Gurung and Samir Sherchan — were felicitated for their contribution for the development of the sport. Kaski District Tennis Association President Bimal Basyal, Kaski District Soft Tennis Association President Anuj Bastola, Lake City Tennis Club President Gopi Bhattarai and sponsor Kiran KC handed over the prizes to the winners.

The organisers also feted Durga Adhikari, Ritu Gurung and Director of Gurung Village Tennis Court Padam Gurung for their help in making the tournament a success. Meanwhile, Pokhara Homes and the organisers signed the sponsorship deal for the next five years.
