Sherpa wins Corporate Golf Tournament

Kathmandu, April 2

Captain Norbu Sherpa won the title of the Nayapatrika Corporate Golf Cup here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.

Played under stableford 3/4 handicap format, the three-handicap amateur golfer Sherpa accumulated 40 points in nett section and also topped the gross category with 37 points. Under the one-player-one-prize rule, Sherpa chose the overall winner trophy. He carded four birdies on the sixth, 12th, 16th and 18th against three bogeys on the first, third and 15th holes.

Gopal Chitrakar came second on count back after he was tied on 38 points with Sailesh Sanghai. Chitrakar scored 19 points on the back nine, while Sanghai had 15. After Sherpa opted for the overall trophy, the gross section title went to Tashi Ghale, who won on count back with Tashi Dong after they were tied on 35 points. Ghale scored 17 on the second half, while Dong added 16.

It was family affair in women’s section with Rekha Ghimire winning the trophy with 25 points ahead of her daughter Aditi, who scored 21 points. Lobsang Tashi won the senior (above-60yrs) section title. Likewise, Vijay Shrestha Einhaus bagged the longest drive award, while Dr Niranjan Sharma won the closest-to-the-pin trophy. Tashi Dong claimed the most birdies trophy on count back after he was tied on four birdies with Capt Norbu Sherpa. No golfer could win the Hole-in-One award of Ford Figo on the Hole No 10.

In all, 82 golfers took part in the tournament organised by Nayapatrika national daily. The event was played on a stableford 3/4 handicap format. Chief Commissioner of Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority Lokman Singh Karki, Chief Secretary Dr Somlal Subedi, IGP of Armed Police Force Durja Kumar Rai, Kathmandu District CDO Ram Krishna Subedi, president of Gokarna Golf Club Suhrid Ghimire and Chairman of Nayapatrika Krishna Jwala Devkota handed over the prizes to the winners.

Meanwhile, the organisers also honoured English national daily The Himalayan Times and Nepal Golf Association general secretary Tashi Ghale for their contribution in the development of golf in Nepal.
