Sherpa wins Indian Ambassador’s Cup

Dorji Tsering Sherpa accumulated 38 points and won the Indian Ambassador’s Cup Golf Tournament here at Royal Nepal Golf course today. Maj Rakesh Bhardwaj was one stroke back with 37 points in the overall category of the tournament played at Stable Ford Full Handicap format. Rajendra Kumar Pradhan came first with 35 points, while Tashi Ghale finished second with 33 points on count back in the 1-9 handicap section. In the 10-18 handicap category, Rabindra Man Shrestha finished first in count back after he was tied with Madan Rana at 36 points.In the above 45-years section, Prem Sachdev won with 36 points, while Kalyan Govinda Shrestha (35) came second. The winner in the below 45-years section was Jamling Ghale with 34 points on count back with K C Gurung.

Ki Mi Ran, who scored 30 points, won the ladies section title, whereas Pushpa Rai ame second with 28 points. Dorji Tsering Sherpa won the most birdies award with three birdies, while Chuda Bahadur Bhandari won the longest drive award at Hole No 13. Kiran Dev Acharya was the golfer nearest to the pin at Hole No 14, and Sanjay Verma was awarded the best sportsmanship award. In the putting competition organised for the non-golfers, Priyanka Bhardwaj emerged winner with five putts, while Garima Mathur finished second with six putts in play off. Indian Ambassador to Nepal Shiv Shankar Mukherjee, who also took part in the event, gave away prizes to the winners. In all, 72 golfers — four in ladies and 68 in men’s sections — took part in the 30-year-old tournament.
