Ranjitkar wins Lifetime Achievement Award

Kathmandu, July 21

Nepal Sports Journalists Forum today honoured former national football team skipper Shreeram Ranjitkar with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Pulsar Sports Award 2072.

Ranjitkar, who was the member of the SAF Games gold medal winning squad in 1984, described the award as the biggest of his career. “I have received numerous awards and honours in my life, but this one is the biggest and a special one for me,” said Ranjitkar. “I would like to thank NSJF for honouring

me with this award,” said Ranjitkar, who played for national team from 1982-89. He was also the part of the teams that won silver and bronze medals in the second and third SAF Games.

The 60-year-old Ranjitkar said he had nothing left to get from football. “I have got everything from football,” said Ranjitkar, who also served the sport as FIFA Referee, referee assessor and instructor. He is still associated with the ANFA in a one-year contract after he retired from National Sports Council last year. Ranjitkar is also an Asian-level time keeper of swimming and worked in athletics.

Ranjitkar had started his football career from Yeti Club at the age of 17 and went on to play for Thamel-XI and New Road Team. He also played for Bangladeshi clubs, Brothers Union and Dhaka Wanderers for two seasons. He became the FIFA referee in 1993 and retired in 2002.
