Shyantu, Nabita claim TT titles
Kathmandu, January 13
Nepal Police Club’s Shyantu Shrestha and Nabita Shrestha won the singles titles of the Huawei National Table Tennis Tournament under the NSC Championship here today.
In men’s final match, Shyantu Shrestha defeated his teammate Binesh Khaniya in straight sets of 4-0. Shrestha claimed the first two sets comfortably recording 11-5 and 11-4 victories. The 17-year-old Shrestha had to work hard to win the next two sets by identical scores of 11-9 to win his second title in a row.
In women’s section, Nabita Shrestha also defeated her NPC teammate and sister-in-law Elina Maharjan in straight sets. Shrestha fought hard to take the first set 12-10 but dominated next two games 11-1 and 11-2. Although fourth set was a competitive one, Shrestha claimed it 12-10.
With the victory, Shrestha bagged the national tournament title for the seventh year in a row. This is Shrestha’s fourth consecutive victory against Maharjan in the final. Shrestha had defeated Swechha Nembang, Renuka Khatri and Raveena Desar to win the first three titles.
In mixed doubles final, Tribhuvan Army Club duo Swechha Nembang and Chandan Shahi defeated Nepal APF Club’s Amar Bahadur Malla and Selisha Khadgi 11-6, 8-11, 11-7, 11-9.
Ghorasaini, Rana win gold medals in shooting
Lalitpur: Tribhuvan Army Club’s Krishna Ghorasaini and Western Region’s Sneha RL Rana won the 10m Air Rifle gold medals of the National Shooting Tournament here at the International Sports Complex today.
Ghorasaini scored 226 points out of 240 to win the men’s category gold medal. His TAC teammate Sushe Chaudhary came second with 224 points and Mid-western’s Pawan Ghimire finished third with 204 points.
In women’s category, Rana accumulated 226 points to finish first ahead of Central’s Sindhuja Basnet (224) and Nepal Police Club’s Kalpana Pariyar (202).
In men’s 10m Air Pistol event, TAC’s Bishnu Kumar Magar won gold medal with 158 points, while Central’s Suman Tuladhar bagged silver with 157 points and TAC’s Kuber KC won bronze with 155 points. In women’s category, NPC’s Sima Tuladhar, Western’s Shreya KC and TAC’s Sarita Basnet claimed top three positions respectively.
