Shrestha, Gothe, Bajracharya advance to final round

Kathmandu, December 8

Nepal  Police Club’s Shyantu Shrestha and Deep Saun as well as Nepal APF  Club duo Purushottam Bajracharya and Shiva Sundar Gothe advanced to men’s singles finals of the iMPACT Thamel Open Table Tennis Championship here today.

NPC’s  Shrestha finished at the top of the table after he won all 11 matches of the super league  round which was played among 12 players.

On Friday, Shrestha recorded five victories. He defeated Tribhuvan Army  Club’s Chandan Shahi 3-0, while he registered 3-1 victories over APF’s Shiva Sundar Gothe and  Amar Lal Malla along with his teammates Pradeep Rokka and Deep Saun.

APF’s Bajracharya and Gothe came second and third respectively, while NPC’s Saun finished fourth. Shrestha will now play against Bajracharya in the Qualifier and the winner  will enter the final, while the loser will await the winner of the Eliminator match between Gothe and Saun for the second Qualifier.

In women’s category, NPC’s  Nabita Shrestha, TAC duo of Swechha Nembang and Dikshya Tamang claimed the top three spots, while NPC’s  Alina Maharjan finished fourth and advanced to the finals.

Shrestha won all eight matches played among nine players after she defeated Alina Maharjan 3-0 in last match.

TAC’s  Nembang and Tamang won six matches each but the former finished second on head-to-head record. On Friday, Nembang beat her teammate Rabina  Maharjan 3-0 but faced a 3-1 defeat against APF’s Selisha Khadgi.

Similarly,  Dikshya Tamang beat Sonu Thapa Magar of NPC 3-1 and came third, while  NPC’s Alina Maharjan won five matches and finished fourth. Shrestha will play against Nembang in the Qualifier, while Tamang will face Maharjan in the Eliminator.
