KATHMANDU: Nepal's women basketball team started the South Asian Women's Basketball Tournament with a winning note.

Nepali team defeated the Bangladeshi team with a wide margin of 92-26 points at the National Sports Council's Covered Hall in Tripureshwar today.

The 1st South Asian Women's Basketball Tournament, organised by Nepal Basketball Association, kicked off here in Kathmandu earlier today.

In the inaugural match, Sri Lanka defeated the Maldives by 106-37 points.

Five teams including Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Maldives and Sri Lanka are participating in the event.
