Southsiders, Golden Gate in final

Kathmandu, June 10:

Southsiders and Golden Gate entered the final of the fifth Fr Watrin Men’s Basketball Tournament.

In the semi-finals, Southsiders defeated Times International, and Golden Gate overcame Kathmandudes by the identical scores of 62-57. Rishi Roberstson top-scored for the Southsiders with 21 points and Bipendra Maharjan netted 16 points for Golden Gate.

After a 13-12 lead in the first quarter, Southsiders never let Times International go ahead. Southsiders extended the lead to 30-25 in the half time. The second quarter proved decisive after both the teams scored 32 points each in the last two quarters.

In the other semi-final, Golden Gate took a 16-13 lead in the first quarter and they extended their lead to eight points scoring 13 in the second quarter when Kathmandudes managed just eight points. The third quarter was competitive but Golden Gate scored 17 and Kathmandudes netted 16. Kathmandudes scored 20 points in the last quarter restricting Golden Gate to 16, but that could not avert their defeat.
