Tiger Tops win

BARDIYA: Tiger Tops Spice Girls and Tepa of Thailand triumphed in their respective matches of the 28th International Elephant Polo Championship on Wednesday. Tiger Tops thrashed Frog Hunter 9-1 while Tepa defeated Pukka Chukkas 7-3. In other matches, Tiger Tops Tuskers beat NGS Energy 6-3, Bardiya National Park saw off Chivas Regal 5-4 and Force Rock Choice overcame Karnali Dolphins 2-1. Centry Ace and New York Blue played a 1-1 draw.

Akhil Cup football

KATHMANDU: The Bagmati Zone Coordination Committee of the All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU) is organising the second Akhil Cup Valleywide Inter-college Football Tournament here on December 6-29. A total of 70 colleges will participate in the knockout tournament, informed the organisers here on Wednesday. Top three teams will get Rs 50,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively.

Karatekas leave

KATHMANDU: A six-member Nepali Karate team on Wednesday left for Malaysia to participate in the third Asian KOI Karate Championships slated for December 3-6. Sunil Lama will compete in men’s below-55kg and Kalpana Basnet will take part in the women’s below-50kg category. Both the Armed Police Force karatekas have already been selected for next year’s 11th South Asian Games in Dhaka. Dhruba Bikram Malla is the coach while Bishan Mote will accompany the team as a jury member. Mote, Malla, senior national referee Omkar Giri and national referee Umesh Kumar Mainali will attend the Asian KOI referee seminar to be held on the sidelines of the tournament.

Kotdevi advance

BHAKTAPUR: Kotdevi and Greenwich School reached the semi-finals of the fourth FECA Cup Inter-school Football Tournament on Wednesday. Kiran Pandey and Kiran Thakuri scored as Kotdevi defeated Gothatar 2-0. In the last quarter-final, Greenwich saw off Bidhya Bikash 2-1. Rakesh Dangol and Bishal Ramtel scored for the winners while Amrit Pudasaini replied for Bidhya Bikash.

LA triumph

LALITPUR: Bouddha Secondary School, Little Angels (LA) and Deepjyoti won their respective football matches held under the 16th Eicher Gyan Carnival on Wednesday. Sonam Lama and Jeevan Shrestha scored to give Bouddha a 2-1 win over Siddhartha Vansathali Institute (SVI). Sunil Bhandari replied for SVI. Rajan Kunwar scored a brace as LA beat GEMS 2-0. Likewise, Deepjyoti beat Gyan Shikha 2-0 with goals from Pradeep Gurung and Rajkumar Thapa. In the boys’ basketball, SVI overpowered LA 58-38 and Wilson defeated GEMS 53-43. LA saw off GEMS 21-4 in the only girls’ match of the day. Meanwhile, hosts Gyanodaya Bal Batika, Annal Joti, Venus and Deepjyoti have secured their semi-final berths in boys’ volleyball.
