Sri Lanka beats Bangladesh in tri-series opener
DHAKA: Tilakaratne Dilshan smashed 104 off 122 balls to lead Sri Lanka to a comfortable win over Bangladesh on Monday in the opening match of the limited-overs tri-nation series.
Sri Lanka successfully chased down the victory target of 261 with seven wickets and 31 balls to spare at Dhaka’s Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.
Man-of-the-match Dilshan overcame a leg cramp and used a runner to hit his sixth one-day century, striking 12 boundaries in the process. He also shared a 148-run second wicket stand with captain Kumar Sangakkara (74 off 73 balls) after opening partner Upul Tharanga fell for 14—caught by wicketkeeper Mushfiq Rahim off pacer Rubel Hossain.
Sangakkara was eventually dismissed by rookie pacer Shafiul Islam, his only wicket in the match.
Earlier, Mohammad Ashraful hit 75 to lift Bangladesh to 260-7.
Ashraful hit six boundaries in his 94-ball knock to help Bangladesh recover from 74-4 following a mini collapse.
He shared a 95-run sixth wicket partnership with Mahmud Ullah (45) before being run out.
Bangladesh openers Tamim Iqbal (40) and Imarul Kayes (37) gave the team a steady start after Sri Lanka captain Sangakkara put Bangladesh in to bat.
But after a 65-run opening stand Bangladesh lost four quick wickets for just nine runs as Suraj Randiv and Suranga Lakmal grabbed two wickets apiece.
Sri Lanka next plays India on Tuesday in the second match of the tournament.
