SSP Shrestha claims golf title

SSP Rajendra Shrestha won the title of the Festival of Lights Golf Tournament here at the Royal Nepal Golf Club today.

Played under stableford 7/8 handicap format, the nine-handicap amateur golfer Shrestha claimed the trophy on count back after he was tied on 37 points with Rajendra Man Sherchan.  Shrestha added 20 points on the latter half after earning 17 on the front nine, while 11-handicapper Sherchan scored 18 and 19 points in the two halves.

Vivek SJB Rana won the gross section title with 28 points. Kaushi Maya Rai lifted the women’s section trophy on count back after she was tied on 33 points with Arshiya Banu. Rai scored 16 points on the back nine, while Banu added 15. Suman Limbu claimed the senior section trophy with 33 points, whereas Gen Prajwalla SJB Rana won the super senior category title with 30 points.

Deep Bahadur Basnet won the most birdies award with two birdies, while Rabin Rana bagged the longest drive title award and Manohar Das Mool bagged the closest-to-the-pin trophy. The winners received trophies and gift hampers. A total of 48 golfers took part in the tournament organised by the RNGC on the occasion of Deepawali. President of Nepal Golf Association Madhukar Yakthumba, RNGC Captain NK Rai, Lady Captain Pawitra Yakthumba, past president Prachanda Bahadur Shrestha and former Chief of the Army Staff Prajwalla SJB Rana and Pyar Jung Thapa handed over the prizes to the winners.
