Stage set for Int’l Wrestling

Kathmandu, November 10

Nepal Ring Wrestling Association is all set to organising the second International Ring Wrestling Championship here at National Sports Council covered hall on  Saturday.

The event will feature seven categories in handicap, tag team,  royal battle, hardcore, singles, doubles and triple threat  matches, informed NRWA General Secretary Subarna Shrestha at a press meet.

A total of 21 wrestlers from Nepal, USA, Czech Republic,  Russia, Malaysia, Singapore, India and Australia will compete in the  championship. Among them, 12 wrestlers are from Nepal, while  remaining nine are foreigners, including two women wrestlers.

The winners of all categories will be awarded with medals, informed the organisers. The estimated budget of the event is Rs 5.5 million.

NRWA  President Sunita Thapa informed that the foreign wrestlers will be  provided with daily allowances apart from travel and accommodation facilities. Thapa also said that association was planning to organise weekly events to promote the sport in the country.

General Manager of Dish Media Network Limited, Kalyan Adhikari said the championship would be an ice-breaking event. “We are set to broadcast wrestling championship within one and half years of our establishment and we are trying to make the sport an weekly event,” said Adhikari. “We always wanted to have a sports dedicated channel and we are happy that we have launched Action Sports. Not only wrestling, we will broadcast other sports played in the country.” Dish Media Network Limited is also the main sponsor of the wrestling championship.
