Stars win preliminary games

Top seeded players continued their winning run in the 12th Nationwide Krishna Mohan Memorial Open Badminton Tournament here today.
In men’s singles preliminary round matches at the Nepal APF headquarter courts, Tribhuvan Army Club’s Dipesh Dhami and Ratnajit Tamang, Nepal APF Club’s Bikash Shrestha and Indra Mahato registered victories. Dhami defeated Sujan Acharya from Khotang, while Tamang thumped Bishal Khadka from Sunsari 21-5, 21-9. APF’s Shrestha beat Narayan Das Shrestha from Ramechhap 21-3, 21-2 and Mahato routed Rupal Thing 21-6, 21-12.
Likewise, Bishnu Katuwal of Nepal Police Club beat Jyoti Prakash Sunar of APF 21-11, 21-11, APF’s Pankaj Chand defeated Sunil Pariyar from Saptari, Nepal Police Club’s Deepak Bohara routed Sajan Shrestha from Ramechhap 21-5, 21-6, Sujan Shrestha from Sunsari edged past Man Bahadur Budhathoki of APF 17-21, 21-15, 21-18, TAC’s Nabin Shrestha thrashed Kebal Shrestha from Nawalparasi 21-9, 21-6, APF’s Sudip Sedai overwhelmed Kamal Shrestha from Dhanusha 21-4, 21-7. Also, Sanjib Singh Khadka from Kailali, RK Shrestha from Bara, APF’s Joseph Adhikari, Man Kumar Limbu from Taplejung registered wins.
In U-17 boys’ singles, Ajay Shrestha of Sunsari beat Safal Thapa of Banke 21-14, 21-14 and Jeevan Acharya of Khotang defeated Mines Gurung of Taplejung 21-11, 21-13, while NPC’s Manish Thapa earned a walkover win. In men’s doubles section, TAC’s Dipesh Dhami/Suroj Maharjan, Abhishek Bose/Sunil Shrestha of Hetauda, Bijit Thapa Magar/Bikash Shrestha of APF, Pankaj Chand/Indra Mahato of APF, Ram Lama/Sudip Sedai of APF, Bishal Kumar Rai/Hem Raj Rai of Khotang, APF’s Ramesh Sherpa/Tirtha Malla, Joseph Adhikari/Suman Limbu of APF, Ajay Shrestha/Bishal Khadka of Sunsari, Bimal Shrestha/Bishal Pradhan of APF, Deepak Bohara/Bishnu Katuwal of NPC and Nabin Shrestha/Ratnajit Tamang of TAC won their matches.
In the men’s singles matches of the eighth Sahabir Memorial Open Lawn Tennis Tournament, Nirajan Shrestha edged past Prem Kumar Shahi 6-3, 7-6, Sanjay Jha beat Diwakar KC 6-4, 6-2, Amulya Bahadur Singh thrashed Sachin Karmacharya 6-1, 6-1, Cesar Gurung beat Arjun Kumar Karki 6-3, 7-5, while Uttam Bogati and Tribhuvan Bista earned walkover wins in the Inter-government service holders section. In above-55 veteran section, Devan Lama and Dhurba Rehaman advanced to the next round, while Karimulla Muslim/Hemchandra Gurung, Sovietman Shrestha/Manoj Shah and Kailash Gurung/Rajendra Singh Bhandari advanced to the next round in above-45 veteran doubles.
A total of 357 players are competing in 11 events of badminton tournament, while 257 players are taking
part in tennis tournament that features 13 events.
