Subba own goal sinks Kathmandu Valley

Kathmandu, February 14:

Jay Devkota Memorial, Campion College and Bhanubhakta Memorial College entered the quarter-finals of the Inter-college Running Shield Football Tournament, which has been organised by Xavier Internaational College, here at Sano Gaucharan ground today.

In the first match, Suresh Shrestha scored twice as Jay Devkota defeated FW Taylor 2-1. Shrestha put Jay Devkota ahead in the 11th minute but Norbu Sherpa levelled the scores for FW Taylor eight minutes later. Shrestha found the decider in the 43rd minute of the 60-minute match.

Lok Chandra Thepten struck a hat-trick as Campion demolished HICAST 5-1. Thepten put his team ahead just one minute into the game before adding another in the 10th minute. Nabin Gurung made it 3-0 two minutes after break (32nd) and Sanjay Byanjankar added one more in the 36th minute. Thepten completed his hat-trick in the 59th minute. Mitra Khatri scored a consolation goal in the 60th minute for HICAST.

The last game of the day saw Bhanukbhakta Memorial edge past Kathmandu Valley 5-4 in tie-breaker after playing 2-2 draw in the regulation 60-minute and added 15-minute time. Bhanubhakta kept itself in the game despite trailing twice during the regular time.

Sanjay Gurung put Kathmandu Valley ahead in the 16th minute but Hari Karki equalised three

minutes later. Bishal Subba gave Kathmadu Valley the lead in the 52nd minute. It took Subba just five minutes to turn into a villian when he scored an own goal, which took the match to

extra time and there by in tie-breaker.
