Suhrid Ghimire wins Gokarna Open
Kathmandu, September 22:
Suhrid Ghimire won the Gokarna Open Golf Tournament here at the Gokarna Forest Golf Resort and Spa today.
Playing with 15 handicap, Ghimire scored 38 points to win the trophy on count back with Maj Gen (Retd) Gajendra Limbu, who had a hole in one on par-3 Hole No 5. Limbu scored 22 points on the front nine and settled for just 16 on the back nine. The tournament was played over 18 holes on the stable ford 3/4 handicap format. In all, 71 golfers took part in the event.
Joseph Nathan came third in the event with 35 points. Maj Gopal Gurung was the senior section (above 60) winner and also claimed the most birdies award with three birdies. Eu Hazur won the ladies section trophy followed by Sumitra Dayanand.
Tashi Tsering, GB Limbu and Hanji Okawara won the longest drive, closest to the pin and best sportsmanship awards respectively. Club champion (in handicap category) Maj Bejoy Moktan and runner up Tsewang Zarotshang were also awarded on the occasion.
Suman Sachdev, Director of the Le Meridien Gokarna Forest Golf Resort and Spa, senior golfer Lt Gen (Retd) KNS Thapa and president of Royal Nepal Golf Club Madhukar Yakthumba gave away the prizes.
Meanwhile, Sachdev also presented the cheques of Rs 444,444 each to the Society of ex-Budhanilkantha School (SEBS) and Godavari Alumni Association (GAA) to help the flood victims. The money was collected from a tournament organised two weeks ago.
