Rai claims Q-School title

Sukra Bahadur Rai won the title of the Surya Nepal Golf Tour Qualifying School here at Royal Nepal Golf Club today.

Rai, who began the third and final round with an eight-stroke cushion, carded five-over 73 to post the 54-hole total of five-over 209 at the par-68 RNGC course. Tanka Bahadur Karki came second with the total score of 12-over 216 after he played two-over 70 in the final round.

Shiva Kumar Majhi and Kamal Tamang shared the third position at 14-over 218. Majhi shot four-over 72, while Tamang played six-over 74 in the final round.

All four players were eligible to take the pro card as they finished within the cut line of 15-over total score. But only Tamang will get the pro card as other three players had applied to hold their cards for now. Tamang will now be eligible to participate in the Surya Nepal Golf Tour events of the 2017-18 season.

A total of 22 golfers took part in the 54-hole tournament organised by Nepal Professional Golfers Association under the sponsorship of Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd to provide them with the opportunity to turn professionals. The event is the only door for the golfers to enter the Surya Nepal Golf Tour. Currently, 62 professional golfers have been actively in domestic circuit.
