Weightlifting C’ship next week

Kathmandu District Weightlifting Association, under the aegis of Nepal Weightlifting Association, is set to organise the first Nepal’s Strongest-2017 — Sunil Lal Joshi Memorial Weightlifting Championship — in Lalitpur from September 13-14.

The competition will feature a total of 27 weight categories in the senior and junior sections, informed KDWA President Bijendra Bikram Shah at a press meet today. The senior men’s category will feature 56kg, 62kg, 69kg, 77kg, 85kg, 94kg, 105kg and above-105kg events, while participants in the women’s category will compete in 48kg, 53kg, 58kg, 63kg, 69kg, 75kg and above-75kg. Likewise, junior men and women categories will each include six weight categories.

The organisers informed that around 90 lifters from 18 districts and three departmental teams will compete in the tournament.

The strongest man and woman will get Rs 11,000 each, while the lifter setting new national records will also

get cash reward.

Similarly, top three contestants in all weight categories will get medals and certificates. The estimated budget for the competition is Rs 200,000.
