Sunrisers Hyderabad lift maiden IPL 2016 trophy

KATHMANDU: Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by eight runs to win the 9th edition of Vivo Indian Premier league 2016 played  at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaleru this evening.

Sunrisers Hyderabad was led by David Warner from the front and well supported by excellent death overs bowling by seamers to lift the prestigious title.

Ben Cutting was awarded the man of the match for his all-round performance. He smacked 39 runs not out of just 15 deliveries and picked up two wickets in his four overs spell in expense of 35 runs.

Mustafizur Rahman from Bangladesh bagged the Emerging Player Award in this year's IPL tournament for taking 17 wickets during the tournament.

David Warner won the Glam Shot Award. Suresh Raina bagged the Best Catch of the Season and AB de Villiers won the Best Fielder of the Season.

The Super Fast Fifty was awarded to Chris Morris of Delhi Dare Devils while Virat Kohli was awarded for maximum sixes with 38 sixes in total.

The Purple cap award was won by Bhuvneshwar Kumar of Sunrisers Hyderabad for his 23 scalps.

Most Valuable Player and Orange Cap was award to Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli for his 973 runs which included four hundreds in this year's Vivo IPL.

Sunrisers Hyderabad also bagged the Fair Play Award of this year's Vivo Indian Premier League.

David Warner lifted the trophy along with the cash prize of IRs 150 million.

During the post-match press conference, Warner credited the victory to lads and supporting staff for their efforts.

Eight teams had participated in this year's Vivo IPL tournament.

2nd innings

Earlier, Sunrisers Hyderabad had posted a total of 208 runs against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final of Vivo Indian Premier League 2016.

In reply, Chris Gayle had given a flying start to the RCB as they raced to fifty in just 4.4 overs. Gayle scored fifty off 25 balls with a flat six over long on. Virat Kohli was playing a second fiddle to Gayle's exquisite hitting, on 13 runs off 15 balls.

The unbeaten opening partnership of 100 runs between Gayle and Kohli in just 9 overs had set the tone of run chase for the RCB. Gayle was unbeaten on 74 runs off just 34 balls with four 4's and eight 6's.

Kohli dropped on 32 by Rahman of Ben Cutting bowling, but Sunrisers had made a breakthrough as Gayle departed for 76 runs, after being caught out by Bipul at third man, while trying to heave over mid wicket.

Virat Kohli, run-machine at the moment for RCB, scored yet another fifty off just 32 balls with a superb inside out shot for six over cover.

Kohli was bowled off inside edge trying to play a extravagant shot over cover region off Barinder Sran. On the process, Kohli became the top run scorer  in this year's edition of IPL 2016.

Sunrisers Hyderabad had pulled the game in their favour as they picked up all important wicket of AB de Villiers, he had miscued a shot, caught at mid on by Henriques off Bipul Sharma. He returned to Pavilion without troubling the scoreboard with 5 runs.  RCB had still required 58 runs off 34 balls with seven wickets in hand to win the trophy.

Ben Cutting provided a much needed break though for Sunrisers Hyderabad as he bowled slow off-cutter, KL Rahul shaping to play a big shot misses completely and the ball clips the off stump, with 161-4 in the scoreboard still needing 47 runs off 23 balls to win the match.

Royal Challengers Bangelore lost another big wicket of Shane Watson, trying to play a big shot skied a slow ball bowled by Rahman, Henriques gets underneath and takes an easy catch as Sunrisers tighten their grip in the match.

RCB had required another 18 runs from last over of this year's Vivo IPL to win the cup with four wickets in hand.

1st innings

Sunrisers Hyderabad had won the toss and elected to bat first. At the end of power play, Sunrisers had raced to 59-0.

Sunrisers lost their first wicket as Shikhar Dhawan tried to play a sweep shot aginst Yuzvendra Chahal, He managed only top edge where jordan takes a running catch at deep square leg. Dhawan scored 28 runs of 25 balls with three 4's and a six.

Moises Henriques came in the middle to join his countryman and captain.He did not stay long in the crease, but perished trying to play a pull shot against Chris Jordan's short ball.

Yuvraj Singh walked out to the middle in his maiden Indian Premier League final of his career.

Captain David Warner who was in scintillating form scored yet another fifty in this edition of IPL. Warner hammered five 4's and clubbed three 6's.

RCB had broken the partnership between Yuvaraj and Warner as they were threatening to post a challenging total, Warner was out caught by Iqbal Abdullah at Short third man of Arvind bowling in the 13th over with 125 on the board.

Warner fell for 69 runs off just 38 balls with eight 4's and three 6's.

Royal Challengers Bangalore were clawing back to the game as they picked up another Sunrishers wicket.  Yuvraj Singh who looked solid in the middle, before trying to hit hard Chris Jordan over cover region was caught by Shane Watson. Yuvraj was looking to open up his arms, as he was trying to up the ante, fell for 38 runs off just 23 balls with four 4's and two 6's.

Ben Cutting struck 39 runs off just 15 deliveries propelled Sunrisers Hyderabad to post a challenging total of 209 runs to win the trophy. Cutting smacked three 4's and four 6's in the tremendous display of fierce hitting in the dead overs.

Journey to the final

The Royal Challengers Bangalore had made it to the final by defeating the Gujrat Lions in the first qualifier game. The GL who topped this year's Indian Premier League chart were eliminated from the finals after their inability to defend totals.

The RCB had won the toss and elected to field first while the GL had posted a total of 158 on the scoreboard. They had made a horrible start by losing three batsmen cheaply for only nine runs on the board.

Dwayne Smith had played out of his skin to make 73 runs off just 57 balls by smashing six 6's and five 4's. In reply, the RCB had lost their charismatic captain Virat Kohli for nought bowled by Dhawal Kulkarini.

The RCB had made a worst start and were reduced to 68-6 in the 10th over. However, their most prolific overseas batsman AB de Villiers played a heroic innings to propel the RCB to the final of the 2016 edition.

Stuart Binnay and Iqbal Abdulla had played their parts in building a partnership with AB de Villiers. Binnay chipped in with 21 runs off 18 deliveries whereas Abdulla remained not out on 33 off 25 balls with three 4's and a maximum. They chased down the total with 10 balls to spare, setting themselves for the grand final in front of their own fans in Bangeleru.

Likewise, Sunrisers Hyderabad had played against Kolkata Night Riders in the other eliminator where Gujarat Lions were waiting for their second qualifier game after losing to RCB in the first qualifier game.

Sunrisers Hyderabad had won the toss and put Gujarat Lions into bat first. They had set the target of 163 on the board.

Gujarat Lions did not had the best start as they had lost their top two batsmen cheaply just 19 on the board. They had lost their captain Suresh Raina for just 1 run.

They never recovered from the early loss and kept losing wickets in the regular interval of the game.

Their middle order batsman Aron Finch had made impressive 50 runs off just 32 deliveries with seven 4's and two maximums. At a time when he was threatening to play some big shots and take a game away from Sunrisers, he perished away trying to heave a full toss over a cow corner.

Gujarat Lions never recovered and Darren Bravo played a cameo of 20 runs off 10 balls towards the end of their innings.

In reply, Sunrisers Hyderabad captain David Warner single-handedly won the game for his team with his unbeaten 93 runs off just 58 deliveries with eleven 4's and three 6's. As the game was drifting away from Sunrisers, lower order batsman Bipul Sharma showed some great composure and nerve to settle down the match with his fierce hitting towards the end of the match.

He clubbed three sixes and eased the pressure away from Warner as they won the match with four balls to spares.

David Warner was adjusted the man of the match for his brilliant innings.
