Taekwondo teams to go to SKorea

Lalitpur, June 20

A 21-member taekwondo team is on Wednesday leaving for South Korea to take part in three different tournaments.

A total of 10 players — Tara Kumar Rayamajhi (54kg), Sagar Gubhaju (58kg), Bir Bahadur Mahara (63kg), Ranjan Shrestha (68kg), Nischal Man Shrestha (74kg), Saksham Karki (87kg), Rejina Karki (46kg), Nima Gurung (53kg), Gyani Chunara (57kg) and Olympian Nisha Rawal (above-73kg) — are scheduled to compete in the World Taekwondo Championship to be held in Muju from June 24-30.

Coach Je Ho Lee and team manager Bhan Bahadur Chand will accompany the players to South Korea. After the World Championship, the players will take part in the Chuncheon Korean Open International Taekwondo Championship slated for July 2-7 in Chuncheon.

Similarly, three players will participate in the third Asian Para-taekwondo Championship to be held in Chuncheon on July 1. Rohit Hang Rai (75kg) will compete in men’s event, while Ranjana Dhami (49kg) and Palesha Gowardhan (58kg) will take part in the women’s section. Coach Kabiraj Negi Lama, manager Deepak Bista and team leader Kashim Miya Dhobi along with officials Nanda Bashyal, Sapana Nepali and Sabina Karki are also in the team.

Meanwhile, newly-elected Mayor of Lalitpur Metropolitan City Chiri Babu Maharjan bade farewell to the team.
