Tamang, Gurung left out of SAFF squad

LALITPUR: Nabil Three Star Club striker Surendra Tamang and defender Lok Bandhu Gurung were today left out of provisional squad for the SAFF Championship slated for December 4-14 in Dhaka.

The national team regulars Tamang and Gurung were the conspicuous omissions from the 28-member squad announced by All Nepal Football Association (ANFA). Chief coach Krishna Thapa, assistant coach Maheshwor Mulmi and goalkeeping coach Upendra Man Singh short-listed the team from the 51 players called for the selection.

The Under-19 skipper and defender Deepak Bhusal and for U-19 player Bikash Singh Chhetry also failed to find their places for the regional tournament. The team was announced following three practice matches played between them in last few days at the Dasharath Stadium.

Meanwhile, New Road Team forward Anil Gurung was also drafted in the provisional squad as the striker is currently playing the i-League for Shillong Lajong FC. The squad includes four goalkeepers in Bikash Malla, Ritesh Thapa, Kiran Chemjong and Rupak Shrestha while Rakesh Shrestha, Sagar Thapa, Anjan KC, Biraj Maharjan, Chun Bahadur Thapa, Robin Shrestha, Rohit Chand, Nur Raj Kafle are the defenders.

Likewise, Yogesh Shrestha, Vijay Gurung, Vishad Gauchan, Bhola Nath Silwal, Raju Tamang, Sandeep Rai, Pradeep Maharjan, Nirajan Khadka, Dipen Shrestha, Ranjit Shrestha and Chetan Ghimire have found their places as midfielders. Ju Manu Rai, Santosh Sahukhala, Bikarna Shrestha, Ganesh Lawati and Nirajan Malla were drafted as forwards.
