The Nepal Olympic Committee today announced the 10 athletes for the Olympic Scholarships.
Nepal No 1 amateur golfer Subash Tamang, who won double gold medals in the 13th South Asian Games on home soil in December 2019, is among the athletes who will get the scholarships until the qualifying of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
Former junior world No 1 badminton player Prince Dahal, Sanyog Kapali (Table Tennis), Payas Yonjan (Fencing), Nasir Yahya Hussain (Swimming), Manita Shrestha Pradhan (Judo), Sushmita Nepal (Shooting), Yunisha Rai (Taekwondo), Deepak Lama (Dance Sports) and Sagar Bhandari (Weightlifting) have been selected for the scholarships, said the NOC in a release.
Each athlete with get $750 per month until the final selection of the 2024 Olympic Games and the scholarship will continue for those who earn tickets to Paris.
The NOC selected the athletes as per the recommendation from their respective national associations and the list has been approved by the International Olympic Committee, the NOC added. The IOC has been providing the athletes with Olympic Scholarships since 2004 Athens Games.
"The main objective of the scholarships is to help athletes in qualifying for the Olympics. The athletes will have to use the scholarship money in their training, international participations, sports gears, insurance, medical and other preparations," said NOC Vice-president and Executive Director Chatura Nanda Rajvaidhya.
"The NOC believes the amount will be a great help for our athletes in their preparations for the Olympics qualifiers," he added.
