Tamang rallies to beat Dhami in all-TAC final

Ratnajit Tamang and his sister Nangsal Devi won the titles of the 12th Krishnamohan Memorial National Open Badminton Tournament organised by the Nepal APF Club here on Friday.
Ratnajit came from a set down to beat Dipesh Dhami 19-21, 21-10, 21-10 in the men’s singles final between the Tribhuvan Army Club shuttlers, while Bishnu Katuwal of Nepal Police Club and Bikash Shrestha of APF finished joint third. In women’s section, Nangsal defeated fellow TAC teammate Amita Giri 21-14, 23-21 in the final, while APF’s Shova Gauchan and Shikshya Shrestha came joint third.
Nepal APF had set aside Rs 740,000 in cash prizes in badminton and Tamang received Rs 60,000, while Dhami got Rs 30,000. In women’s section, Nangsal earned Rs 50,000 and Giri received Rs 40,000, while third-place finishers in both categories got Rs 25,000 each.
Tamang teamed up with Nabin Shrestha to win the men’s doubles title with a 21-19, 14-21, 21-15 victory over APF duo of Bijit Thapa and Bikash Shreshta, while Ratnajit and Nangsal bagged the mixed doubles title. APF’s Pooja Shrestha and Shikshya Shrestha finished first in women’s doubles. Sunil Joshi of Kanchanpur and Megha Chand of TAC won the U-17 section titles
APF’s Pushpa Tamrakar and Mahesh Shreshta won the above-55 veteran doubles title, while Nabin Babu Shrestha and Shyam Bahadur Parajuli of Annapurna Badminton Academy claimed the above-45 section title. APF’s Ashok Mumar Shakya and Lok Bahadur Thapa bagged the above-35 master doubles trophy and Narendra Karki and Bharat Bahadur Shah clinched the above-45 category title.

Meanwhile, Jitendra Pariyar of Lalitpur and Era Rawat of Jhapa won the titles of the eighth Sahabir Memorial Open Lawn Tennis Tournament. Pariyar defeated Kamal Bhandari of Nepal Police Club in the men’s singles final, while Samrakshyan Bhushan Bajracharya of Kathmandu and Kumar Adhikari of Pokhara came joint third. In women’s singles final, Rawat beat Eni Mathema of Lalitpur, while Rana siblings of Mayanka and Mahika finished joint third.
Likewise, Raju Chhetri and Digendra Kumar Shrestha of Lalitpur won the veteran doubles title, while TAC duo Chandra Thapa and Niranjan Shrestha finished first in master doubles. IGP of Nepal Police Upendra Kanta Aryal and acting IGP of Nepal APF Durja Kumar Rai among others handed over the prizes to the winners of the tournament. The tournament features 14 events. Top three players in singles categories received Rs 60,000, Rs 30,000, and Rs 25,000 respectively, while top two in doubles sections earned Rs 40,000 and Rs 20,000. Other winners also got their share of cash prizes.
