Tamang siblings claim mixed doubles title

Kathmandu, April 7

Ratnajit Tamang and Nangsal Tamang of Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) won the mixed doubles titles of the 12th Krishnamohan Memorial Nationwide Open Badminton Tournament here today.

In the championship match played at the Nepal APF headquarters, Tamang sibling defeated Puja Shrestha and Bikash Shrestha of APF 21-18, 21-16. The Army club made it double when Megha Chand won the girls’ U-17 section trophy with a 21-13, 21-18 victory over Seema Rajbanshi of Morang. In boy’s section, Sunil Joshi of Kanchanpur came from behind to beat TAC’s Rukesh Maharjan 8-21, 21-17, 21-19.

In women’s double, APF’s Puja Shrestha and Sikchya Shrestha thumped TAC’s Amita Giri and Nangsal Tamang 21-13, 21-19 for the title. Likewise, APF’s Ashok Kumar Shakya/ Lok Bahadur Thapa beat fellow APF club mates Ganesh Thapa Magar/Santosh Singh 21-18, 22-20 in above-35 doubles, while Puspa Tamrakar/Mahesh Shrestha registered a hard fought 20-22, 21-15, 21-8 victory over Subash Rai/Resham Bhattachan of Kaski In above-55 doubles final.

In above-45 doubles final, Narendra Karki/Bharat Bahadur Shah registered a 21-10, 21-12 victory over APF’s Hasta Bahadur Gurung/Mohan Kumar Gurung, while Nabin Babu Shrestha and Shyam Bahadur Parajuli of Annapurna Badminton Academy won the above-45 veteran doubles title.

In the eighth Sahabir Memorial Open Lawn Tennis Tournament, the pair of Kamal Adhikari and Jitendra Pariyar routed Samrakchyan Bajracharya and Sakchyam Karki 6-1, 6-0 to win the men’s doubles title. Also, Mahesh Shrestha of Kathmandu edged past Chhewang Lama of Sindhupalchowk 6-3, 2-6, 14-12 in the above-35 veteran singles final, while Shreeram Magar/Mahesh Shrestha of Lalitpur registered a 3-6, 6-2, 10-6 victory over Chandra Shahi/Sovietman Shrestha of Kathmandu in doubles final. In the above-45 veteran singles final, Krishna Raj Ghale of APF defeated Manoj Shah of Kathmandu.
