Tamang siblings win badminton titles
Lalitpur, July 11
Tamang siblings Ratnajit and Nangshal Devi of Tribhuvan Army Club won the singles titles of the Yonex Sunrise sixth Pushpa Lal Memorial National Open Badminton Tournament here today.
Defending champion Ratnajit Tamang won the men’s singles title with a 23-21, 21-17 victory over his TAC teammate Nabin Shrestha.
Tamang, who teamed up with Shrestha, also won the men’s doubles category title after beating Nepal Police Club duo Bishnu Katwal and Dipesh Dhami 21-17, 21-18.
In the women’s singles, defending champion Nangshal Devi Tamang saw off her TAC teammate Amita Giri 21-14, 19-21, 21-8 in the final match.
Tamang, who teamed up with Anumaya Rai, bagged the doubles title with a 21-11, 16-21, 21-14 victory over the pair of Pooja Shrestha and Yam Kumari Gurung of Nepal APF Club.
Likewise, Lalitpur’s Pemba Sherpa won the boys’ U-15 singles title, while TAC’s Praful Maharjan won the boys’ U-17 title. In girls’ section, Rashila Maharjan of TAC won both the U-15 and U-17 categories title.
Annapurna Badminton Club’s Shyam Parajuli and Nabin Babu Shrestha won the men’s above-45 veteran section title. National Sports Council Member Secretary Keshab Kumar Bista handed over the prizes to the winners of the tournament.
