Taplejung, Kailali enter quarter-finals in Palpa

Taplejung and Kailali advanced to the quarter-finals of the ANFA Women’s Football League Championship here on Sunday.

The two teams joined Kathmandu and Jhapa in the last eight from the matches played in Palpa. In the day’s first match, Kailali hammered Chitwan 5-0. Ganga Adhikari scored a brace, while Susmita Dawadi, Mahima Chaudhary and Hema Chaudhary netted one goal each for Kailali.

In another match, Taplejung registered a 5-0 victory over Sindhupalchowk. Anushka Sherpa and Gita Rana scored two goals each, while Bhujunga Rai netted one for Taplejung. In a meaningless match, Saptari and Sindhuli played a goalless draw.

In the other half of the draw, Nawalparasi and Morang joined Sarlahi and Rautahat in the last eight from the matches played in Syangja. In the first match, Nawalparasi played a 1-1 draw with Nuwakot and it was enough for them to earn a berth in last eight. Sujita Tamang put Nuwakot ahead in 29th minute before Uday Thapa levelled the scores in the 79th minute.

Also, Morang defeated Bara 3-0 riding on a brace from Reshma Rai and one from Asha Limbu. In a meaningless match, Bardiya thrashed Dhanusha 8-0. Sapana Tharu completed a hat-trick, while Anita Gharti Magar scored a brace for Bardiya. Asha Shai, Manju Tharu and Niru Acharya also netted one goal each.

On Monday, Jhapa will play against Kathmandu, while Taplejung face Kailali. Rautahat will take on Sarlahi, whereas Morang face Nawalparasi.
