KATHMANDU, JULY 26

The 18-member Nepali team in on Wednesday leaving for India to take part in the 44th Chess Olympiad slated for July 28 to August 9 in Chennai.

National champion Purushottam Chaulagain, FIDE Masters Rupesh Jaiswal and Chhitij Bhandari, Candidate Masters Bibek Thing and Milan Lama will take part in men's tournament. Nepal Chess Association Vice-president and National Instructor Dhana Bahadur Bogati is the team captain.

Likewise, national champion and Women FIDE Master Sujana Lohani, Kritisara Adhikari, Anisha Neupane, Binita Kapali and Shanti Dhimal will compete in women's section. Former national champion CM Bhupendra Niraula is the team captain.

NCA General Secretary Dharam Bahadur Lama will accompany the players to India as Head of the Delegates.

NCA Secretaries, International Arbiter Umesh KC and FIDE Arbiter Monalisa Khamboo have been selected as arbiters in the Olympiad.

Meanwhile, NCA President Bidur Prasad Gautam will attend the FIDE Congress on the sidelines of the Olympiad. NCA Senior Vice-president Rajendra Prasad Rijal, vice-president Narayan Das Gamal and Treasurer Gyanendra Maharjan will take part in different meetings of the Congress.

Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Jeevan Ram Shrestha, who is also the President of Nepal Olympic Committee, bade farewell to the team today.
