Three Star in semis

Kathmandu, October 21:

Nabil Three Star Club advanced to the semi-finals of the 30th Governor’s Gold Cup Football Tournament with a 2-1 win over Border Security Force (BSF) in Sikkim today.

Last year’s runners up, Three Star took an early lead in the 10th minute when Rupesh KC headed in a free kick from Pukar Gahatraj. The Nepali ‘A’ Division outfit wasted two other goalscoring chances in the first half. Anil Ojha ruined a chance in the 24th before Santosh Sahukhala hit the woodwork three minutes from half time.

Abhilash Thapa, who missed a chance in the first half, scored the equaliser for BSF in the 76th minute but Sabindra Shrestha found the winner three minutes later on a freekick. Three Star had fielded several ANFA Academy players in the absence of their six regular players who were on national duty for the Merdeka Cup in Malaysia. Both the scorers of match belong to ANFA Academy.

Three Star Club, who lost to another Nepali ‘A’ Division club NRT in final last year, will play against Tata Academy on Thursday.
