9-ball tourney begins
KATHMANDU: The Nine Ball Pool Tournament, under the auspices of Fun World Nepal Recreation Centre, began at the Fun World Pool Centre at Soaltee Crowne Plaza today. In all, 128 participants are taking part in the two-day tournament. Earlier, Bharat Shakya, GM at Nepal Recreation Centre, inaugurated the event. — HNS

KATHMANDU: Raju Lama and Suresh BK scored two goals each as Satdobato Youth Club blanked Raniban Nawa Yuva Club 6-0 in the ‘C’ Division League Selection Football Tournament. In other matches, Maha Sagar Mahaju and Anil Shrestha scored a hat-trick each as Romeo Boys’ Club thrashed Shree Ganesh Youth Club 8-0; Youth Forum Club beat Young NRT 4-1; and Gyan Bhairab beat Lucky Boys 9-1. — HNS
Jones finishes second
HENGELO: Marion finished second in the 100 metres at the FBK Games, finishing in a modest 11.29 seconds. Chandra Sturrup of the Bahamas won the race in 11.15, and Britain’s Joice Maduaka was third in 11.46. FRANKFURT: Hertha Berlin’s Brazilian midfielder Marcelinho was voted the best Bundesliga player of the season, according to a players’ poll published on Monday in the Kicker magazine.
He got 35.8 per cent of votes from the 232 players polled. Bayern Munich’s Michael Ballack
finished second with 14.2 per cent. The top goalkeeper was Robert Enke of Hannover 96, ahead of Borussia Dortmund’s Roman Weidenfeller and Bayern’s Germany international Oliver Kahn. — AP
