Thapa Malaysia-bound
KATHMANDU: President of All Nepal Football Association Ganesh Thapa today left for Malaysia to take part in AFC meetings to be held there from March 21-24. Thapa, who is also the member of AFC, vice chairman of AFC Development Fund Committee and chairman of AFC President’s Cup Committee, is scheduled to take part in the Development Fund Committee and President’s Cup Committee meetings. Thapa will also present the report on AFC President’s Cup, to be held in Kathmandu from May 4-14. — HNS

TANAHUN: Pokhara sub-Metropolitan City defeated Siddhartha Municipality 4-3 in tie breaker in the final of the Birendra Memorial Inter-municipality Regional Football Tournament. Basanta Gauchan, Rajendra Tamang, Tilak Gurung and Naresh KC converted in the spot kicks for Pokhara whereas Krishna Gurung, Suraj Gurung and Prem Kumar Gurung scored for Siddhartha. — HNS
Alonso wins Malaysian GP
Sepang: Fernando Alonso gave Renault back-to-back victories, winning Sunday’s Malaysian Grand Prix ahead of Jarno Trulli, who gave Toyota its first podium finish in F1. Alonso’s teammate Giancarlo Fisichella crashed out and took Williams’ Mark Webber with him on the 38th lap, while seven-time world drivers’ champion Michael Schumacher collected his first point of the season with a seventh-place finish for Ferrari. Alonso, third at the Australian GP two weeks ago, led from pole position and collected his second GP title covering 56 laps of the 5.543-km Sepang circuit in 1 hour, 31 minutes, 33.736 seconds. He was 24.3 seconds clear of Trulli, and Nick Heidfeld was a further 7.8 seconds back in third. —AP
