Mahabir, JYC register wins:

LALITPUR: Santosh Maharjan scored a hat-trick as Jawalakhel Youth Club beat Sankata Club 3-1 and Mahabir Club blanked Brigade Boys Club 3-0 in the Nepal Bank Junior (Under-14) League Football Tournament, today. While Rabi Thapa scored twice in the 10th and the 59th minute, Bikash Kunwar added another in the 62nd minute for Mahabir. Anil Devkota scored the consolation goal for Sankata. On Wednesday, it’s MPC vs Friends and RCT vs Boys Union. — HNS

LAS, Nightingale triumph:

KATHMANDU: Little Angles’ School (LAS) defeated Deep Jyoti School by 69 runs and Greenland Children Academy (GCA) beat Nightingale by seven wickets in the day’s matches of the second KB Khatri Memorial Inter-school Cricket Tournament. Batting first, GCA were bowled out for 34 runs in 17.4 overs. In reply, Nightingale scored 97 runs in 17.1 overs losing three wickets. Earlier, LAS scored 167 runs in 25 overs losing four wickets. In reply, Deep Jyoti failed to reach the target and were packed off for 98 runs in 17.4 overs. Rojak (Nightingale) and Jeevan Limbu (LAS) were named man of the match. — HNS

Pyakurel finishes first:

KATHMANDU: Kavita Pyakurel of Central Region finished first in 1,500m girls’ race followed by Bishnu Kasuwal and Bimala Shrestha at the 24th National Athletics Meet, organised to mark the 30th Education Day, today. Other winners were: Saraswati Badayak and Ram Prasad Tharu (400m), Yashoda Pyakurel and (5,000m) and Tirtha Raj Oli (10,000m). In girls’ section match of the 27th National Volleyball Tournament, Central Region beat Western Region 25-18, 23-25, 25-20 and Eastern Region beat Central Region 25-14, 25-21 to enter the final whereas Central Region and Eastern Region made it to the boys’ section final. — HNS

Blignaut returns to fold:

HARARE: Zimbabwean rebel cricketer Andy Blignaut has rejoined his country’s cricket squad and signed a contract, following his axing last year over a row about racial bias in selection, Zimbabwe Cricket said. Blignaut is one of 15 mainly senior players who were sacked after they demanded the reinstatement of former captain Heath Streak. Blignaut could be rushed back into action later this week in the third and final A-team Test against Bangladesh. — AFP
