Acme ‘red’ clinch title:

KATHMANDU: Acme ‘red’ defeated Institute of Engineering (IOE) 15-25, 25-22, 26-24, 15-9 and bagged the Acme Inter-technical College Volleyball Tournament, which concluded here today. Kedar Thapa Magar was adjudged man of the match. President of Nepal Shooting Association and member of National Sports Council Kishor Bahadur Karki gave away prizes to the winners. The five-day event was participated by six teams of five colleges. — HNS

Central Region triumph:

KATHMANDU: The Central Region defeated Western Region 25-20, 25-23 in the girls’ inaugural match of the 27th Inter-school Volleyball Tournament, which has been organised by National Sports Council under the auspices of Ministry for Education and Sports to mark the 30th Education Day. In boys’ section, Mid-western Region beat Eastern Region 25-21, 23-25, 25-14. Meanwhile, the organisers informed that the athletics events, scheduled to begin from Monday, will now be held on Tuesday. — HNS

Referee training begins:

LALITPUR: The professional referee training started at ANFA Complex today. Former FIFA referees Gopal Mukunda Joshi and Shree Ram Ranjitkar, along with FIFA referees Buddhi Bahadur Gurung and Gyani Raja Shrestha are conducting the workshop, which has participation from Kaski, Dhanusha, Nuwakot, Kavrepalanchowk, Rautahat, Rupandehi and Makwanpur. Also, three trainees from each district are taking part in the training. — HNS

Gautam School beat MES:

BIRGUNJ: Sandip Gupta top-scored with 32 runs as Gautam School defeated MES School by 43 runs and won the Ujjwol Cup Junior Cricket Tournament today. Batting first, Gautam scored 106 runs losing nine wickets in 25 overs. In reply, MES were bowled out for 68 runs in 16.5 overs. For Gautam, man of the match Mohammad Alam took four wickets. While Nesad Alam (MES) was named man of the series, Prashant Mishra (Little Angles’) was adjudged the best bowler and Surendra Shah (Alpine) was declared the best batsman of the tournament. — HNS

Special visa offices for fans:

ISLAMABAD: India said on Monday it would open special visa offices in the Pakistani cities of Lahore and Karachi to process thousands of fans who want to travel across the border for a historic cricket tour. “The High Commission has put in place arrangements to facilitate timely issuance of visas to those desirous of witnessing cricket matches in India,” an embassy statement said. Pakistan arrive in New Delhi on February 28 to play three Tests and six one-day games on their first tour of India in six years. — AFP

Wilson set to return:

CHRISTCHURCH: Former rugby All Black Jeff Wilson will return to international cricket for the first time in 12 years on Tuesday when he takes the field against Australia. Wilson gets his chance in the second of five one-dayers against the world’s top side after New Zealand allrounder Scott Styris was ruled out with a knee injury. Wilson will be picking up where he left off after playing four one-day internationals against Australia in 1993 before embarking on a glittering decade-long All Black rugby career. — AFP
